Dr. Jason Gillihan is chief medical officer of Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital and associate chief medical officer of Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He previously served as the Chief of Anesthesiology at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital (2019-2024) and Associate Director of Clinical Anesthesiology at Barnes Jewish Hospital (2017-2024). He has served as the medical advisor for Goldfarb School of Nursing’s nurse anesthesia program since 2014 and the trauma PI liaison for BJH since 2017. Dr. Gillihan is also a co-chair of the Clinical Operations subgroup of the BJC Perioperative Oversight Committee.
He is board certified in anesthesiology, spending most of his career specializing in the care of traumatically injured patients, and he is the current president of the Trauma Anesthesiology Society. In his role as CMO of Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, he is responsible for Medical Staff Services, chairs the Credentialing Committee, and oversees patient safety and quality, clinical effectiveness, and patient experience.
Dr. Gillihan received his medical degree from Southern Illinois University, completing his residency in Anesthesiology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University in St. Louis. He received his Executive MBA from Olin Business School at Washington University in 2023. Dr. Gillihan retired from the U.S. Army in 2016 after 23 years of service and is a veteran of Operation New Dawn (Iraq) and Operation Enduring Freedom.
