Behavior Coaching

Deciding to have nonsurgical treatment for weight loss requires serious consideration about your life after the procedure. To maintain a healthy weight for the long term, you’ll need to commit to incorporating lifestyle changes. Our behavior coach offers strategies to help you build lifelong habits for a healthy quality of life.

Lifestyle Behavior Coaching Groups to Support Weight Loss

A nonsurgical endoscopic weight loss procedure is just the beginning of your journey to successful weight management. The key to your long-term health and wellness is rethinking your relationship with food. At Barnes-Jewish, we offer lifestyle guidance with a behavior coach to build healthy habits that you can use for a lifetime.

During the yearlong, nonsurgical weight loss program, the behavior coach leads monthly group sessions, which meet via an online interactive program.

The behavior coach offers secure, HIPAA-compliant, online interactive group sessions for people who:

  • Have had an intragastric balloon device placed
  • Have had an aspiration therapy tube placed
  • Have had an endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty procedure
  • Have had an endoscopic gastric outlet repair (endoscopic revision procedure)

Our online behavior coaching sessions are compliant with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations for privacy.

Our Coaching Topics During Weight Loss Treatment

Each group session features a unique theme that helps you develop healthy skills for your individual weight loss journey and set personal goals. Your behavior coach works with you to identify barriers you may be experiencing in your weight loss efforts. You work together with your coach to identify lifestyle strategies that you are willing to incorporate to work around these barriers. Throughout the 12-month program, our behavior coach works with you on topics that include:

  • Emotional and social support: Your coach will help you find ways to ask for support from family, friends and work colleagues.
  • Lifestyle balance: You’ll learn how to manage stress, increase your physical activity and get adequate rest.
  • Mindful eating: Your coach will review how you can pay more attention to your body’s natural signals for satiety (fullness).
  • Physical activity: You’ll learn ways to incorporate both structured and lifestyle activities into your daily life.
  • Social skills: Your coach will offer strategies that you are willing to incorporate into your daily life. These strategies will help you feel more comfortable with changes in your body throughout the weight loss experience and in social settings, when others notice your weight loss.
  • Accountability: Your coach will help you identify your preferred method of tracking your calories, activity, moods and progress toward the goals you have set. Your behavior coach is always available to help you strategize, solve problems and identify adjustments, as necessary, to be successful.
