Radiography, also known as x-ray, uses radiation to make images of your bones and internal organs. X-rays are simple, painless medical tests that help physicians with diagnosis and treatment. They quickly enable your doctor to safely and easily view and assess conditions ranging from broken bones to pneumonia. X-rays are safe and effective for people of all ages, including young children.
There are many types of x-rays such as bone x-rays, chest x-rays, and kidney, colon and stomach exams. The type your doctor orders depends on what part of your body needs to be examined and for what purpose.
Fluoroscopy
Fluoroscopy makes it possible to see internal organs in motion. It is similar to an x-ray “movie” in that it provides real-time x-ray imaging that is especially useful for guiding a variety of diagnostic and interventional procedures.
For example, when the lower gastrointestinal tract is filled with barium, the radiologist is able to view and assess the anatomy and function of the rectum, colon and sometimes part of the lower small intestine.
